About This Speaker

Dr. Naheed Dosani is a dedicated palliative care physician and health justice activist. He champions equitable healthcare for those facing poverty and homelessness. For example, he founded and leads the Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH) Program in downtown Toronto. This program operates at the Inner City Health Associates. Additionally, he serves as Medical Director of Kensington Hospice (Kensington Health). He also works as a Health Equity Expert Advisor at the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. Furthermore, he is a palliative care physician at St. Michael’s Hospital (Unity Health Toronto).

Dr. Dosani teaches as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Specifically, he works in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He shares his passion for palliative care and health equity with students. As a researcher, he is an Investigator with the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions. This center is located at St. Michael’s Hospital’s Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. He specifically studies health system innovation. He also focuses on advancing access to equity-oriented care for vulnerable populations. As a health systems leader, he serves on the Canadian Medical Association’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Dosani has received numerous prestigious honors for his groundbreaking work. For instance, Canada’s Governor General awarded him the Meritorious Service Cross for Humanitarianism in 2018. Then, in 2019, he received the Award for Humanitarianism from the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians. The Canadian Medical Association also presented him with the Early Career Leader Award in 2020. More recently, Dr. Dosani received an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Laws) from Ontario Tech University in 2022. He also got the Dr. Earl Dunn Award from the University of Toronto in 2024. This award recognized his work in advancing primary care. In the same year, Hospice Palliative Care Ontario gave him the Dr. S. Lawrence Librach Award. This honor acknowledged his excellence and leadership in Palliative Care. In May 2025, he was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal. This medal recognizes Canadians who strengthen their communities and country.
