About This Speaker
Matt Devlin is a respected play-by-play TV announcer, best known as the voice of the Toronto Raptors since 2008, when he succeeded longtime broadcaster Chuck Swirsky. Known for his signature energetic style and unique catchphrases, Devlin is a beloved figure in Canadian sports broadcasting.
Devlin began his broadcasting career with NBA TV during its inaugural season in 1999. He later served as the lead play-by-play voice for the Memphis Grizzlies and the Charlotte Bobcats, and has covered NBA games on TNT, NFL games on FOX, and NCAA football and basketball for the Big Ten Network. In the 2025 NBA Playoffs, he called first-round games alongside Greg Anthony and Taylor Rooks for TNT and NBATV. Devlin also covered wrestling for NBC Sports at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Though his primary role is with the Raptors, Devlin’s voice has extended across multiple sports. He’s filled in as a play-by-play announcer for TSN and Sportsnet, calling games for the CFL, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Rogers Cup. During the 2011 NBA lockout, he hosted Toronto Maple Leafs pre- and post-game coverage on Leafs TV.
Matt Devlin is famous for his creative 3-point calls, naming Toronto suburbs like Mississauga, Pickering, or Burlington. During the Raptors’ 2019 championship run, his calls expanded nationwide—“From Halifax!”, “From Edmonton!”, “From Iqaluit!”
Born in Syracuse, New York, Devlin graduated from Boston College in 1990 with a degree in communications. He and his wife Erin have three sons: Jack, Ian, and Luke. Jack, who has special needs, was a student manager for the Iowa Hawkeyes and gained national attention for sinking a half-court shot. Luke plays hockey for Cornell and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022.
In 2019, Matt Devlin proudly became a Canadian citizen.
