About This Speaker
John Langan is a Saulteaux (pronounced So-Toe)/ Cree indigenous man from Keeseekoose First Nation, Saskatchewan, Treaty 4 Territory, and hails from the Bear Clan. A graduate of the Indigenous Justice and Criminology Program at the University of Saskatchewan. John continues to apply his skills to his now full time job as a police constable whilst still serving his country with the Canadian Armed Forces part time. John’s unique upbringing has helped him bring a unique perspective to both his public service and service to his country. John continues to carry on his people’s culture by practicing and continuing ceremony.
John is an award winning author and speaks professionally to thousands of people nationwide on a story of resilience, intergenerational residential school trauma, and the ability to overcome obstacles in life through perseverance and determination. He is a soldier, police officer, traditional knowledge/language keeper, and most importantly a husband and father. John is driven to share the beauty of indigenous culture and ceremony.

Helping Others Identity Their Gift
John shares stories about coming from the bottom in life, and teaches others around him the skills that helped him envision his goals in life and putting written words into action. Truth And Reconciliation
John shares his story of starting at the bottom of life, while losing everything around him. John overcomes blatant racism, poverty, violence, alcohol and a drug ridden environment. John shares his story of holding his cultural identity close to him, and the key to success is having an identity, culture, and a language. Through powerful storytelling, John puts you in his shoes to feel what he experienced, and what the audience can do to help move forward to better indigenous relations. This session is designed to run 45-90 minutes in length. Indigenous Cultural Awareness
John’s unique cultural presentation showcases the bright aspects of indigenous culture. John explains the intricacies and uniqueness of Indigenous Canada. Focusing on acknowledging the past, but focusing on the future. Participants will get a first hand experience smudging together, and speaking openly with participants about Indigenous practices and beliefs. Showcases language, culture and spirituality in a down to earth presentation which opens up every participant to sharing and asking questions. This session is designed to run 45 minutes to 3 hours in length. Indigenous Policing And Principles Of Followership/Leadership
John shares his story through military and policing, and how he showcased his pride in his people's language and culture and remaining true to who he was through the process. John's story will showcase an empathetic view of patrolling in today's environment, and tools police agencies/ military bases can use to help and accommodate Indigenous members of their organizations.
