About This Speaker

Founding Voice of Barenaked Ladies • Acclaimed Solo Artist • Keynote Performer

Book Steven Page for a keynote-plus-performance, fireside chat with songs, or as a polished host/MC.
A founding member and former lead singer of Barenaked Ladies, Steven pairs one of Canada’s most recognizable voices with sharp wit and real artistry. Today he tours as a solo artist and with the Steven Page Trio (Craig Northey, Kevin Fox), continues to release new music—most recently the 2022 album Excelsior—and performs with orchestras and festivals across North America.

About Steven

Steven left Barenaked Ladies in 2009 and launched a prolific solo career, including tours from intimate theatres to arenas—recently opening select dates for The Who—and frequent collaborations with Art of Time Ensemble. Additionally, Steven is an experienced composer: credits include Stratford Festival scores (from As You Like It to Hamlet) and the original musical Here’s What It Takes. On screen, he created and hosted the food-culture series The Illegal Eater, writing and performing the theme. His single “A Different Sort of Solitude” earned a Genie Award nomination.

Speaking Topics: Steven Page

Overcoming Adversity

In his funny and self-deprecating keynotes he offers insightful tips on how to feel better, live well, express ourselves every day, and how music helps to heal us. Through moving anecdotes, Page shares his creative processes, how it helped him through his issues. Page talks about overcoming embarrassment, and learning to appreciate, love, and harness his voice. Late in the talk, he picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to strum, reminding us why he’s counted among Canada’s premiere musicians.

Ending The Stigma Surrounding Mental Health

Page first came out about his mental health struggles in 2011, when he guest hosted an episode of the CBC Radio current affairs show The Current. Since then, he has been an outspoken advocate for more mental health awareness, and to help decrease the stigma around mental illness. Page encourages others to share their stories and seek help; “When we educate everyone about the truths and myths of mental health, we can open up dialogue, and get down to the business of promoting good mental health.”
